Widely known as dragon fruit, pitahaya is a fruit growing from a cactus. It is ovoid, rounded and elongated with the yellow and red outside, while its flesh can be red or white with small black seeds. Originally coming from Mexico, Central- and South America, this kind of fruit can be also grown in some countries in eastern Asia. 

“The word pitahaya is of Antillean origin and means “scaly fruit.”

  • A 100-gram serving of pitahaya provides an estimated 21 milligrams of vitamin C, which corresponds to 34% of the daily value (more than 3 times the amount of vitamin C found in carrots). Vitamins C helps the skin smooth and glowing
  • A 100-gram portion of pitahaya delivers 3 grams of fiber, which is equivalent to 12% of the daily reference value for dietary fiber which is good for diabetics by stabilizing the blood sugar level.
    With a great deal of vitamin A in the form of carotene, dragon fruit is essential for eyesight.
  • In addition, if you are in trouble with acne, then consuming the dragon fruit is a useful and safe way for treatment because of its high level of vitamin C which cleans the skin and reduces the oil on the skin
  • With a rich source of antioxidants, pitahaya helps prevent the attack of harmful free radicals that are known to cause cancer and other health problems such as heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. 
  • This fruit is also a good source of B group vitamins, such as vitamin B1, B2, B3
  • Additionally, consuming dragon fruit helps you prevent anemia because this fruit is plenty of iron.
