Lemongrass

Lemongrass, also known as Cymbopogon, fever grass is a tropical herb. 

This plant grows in dense clumps. It also has several stalks and slender blade-like leaves which droop towards the tips. The leaves can reach 3 feet long and 1/2 inch wide. They taper at both ends and their tips gracefully arch. Normally, the edges of the leaf are very sharp.

 The flavor is quite light and does not overpower other flavors in a dish. It also adds a slightly sharp and tangy taste without the bitterness of the lemon.

Lemongrass is also very fragrant, with an aroma that adds its own hint of flavor to dishes in which it is used.

What is longan?

The longan is a member of the soapberry family, to which the rambutan and lychee also belong. 

 

According to the literal meaning in Chinese, longan signifies the dragon eye. People called it lthat name because the fruit looks like a big eyeball. Similar to other fruits of the soapberry family, this fruit is round in shape and around 2.5-4 cm in diameter. Its skin color varies from yellowish-brown to pale reddish-brown. In Vietnam, this kind of tropical fruit is considered a traditional fruit with the main production areas in most of the provinces throughout the country especially, Yen Bai, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Phu Tho, Can Tho, Tien Giang, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Long, Lao Cai, Ba Ria Vungtau, Hung Yen, Son La, and Thanh Hoa.

What is lychee?

Rambutan: What is a rambutan and rambutan nutrition

What is rambutan?

Rambutan is the edible fruits of the rambutan tree- a medium-sized tropical tree. The tree is commonly grown in various countries throughout tropical Southeast Asia, but it is the most well-known as a specialty of Vietnam. 

It has an exotic exterior with the round to oval shape and covered with fleshy pliable spines outside. Although the spines look sharp, they are definitely soft. The spines help transpire the water, which can affect the fruit’s quality outside. When the fruit is ripe, its skin becomes red.
